The Griffin Group History
The Griffin family have been in the hospitality business since 1925, when Jenny Griffin nee Hall and her mother operated Laburnham Guest House in Killenagh Goery. In 1936 Jenny married garda Michael Griffin and they relocated to Rosslare Stand, however they still remained in the hospitality industry.
In 1960 Michael Griffin retired from the Garda Síochána and purchased the Pier Hotel in Rosslare Harbour. In 1976 Michaels son Liam Griffin (who is now the company’s Managing Director), purchased the property from his parents after graduating from Shannon College of Hotel Management and spending a decade working in various Hotels in Wales, Switzerland and Ireland. After extensive renovations the Pier Hotel was renamed Hotel Rosslare. (Later sold in 1999)
This was the official birth of the Griffin Group. Liam Griffin decided to expand the Group by purchasing Hotel Kilkenny in 1985 and Ferrycarrig Hotel in 1991. In 2005 Liam Griffin and the Griffin Group opened a bold new chapter in their history; Monart Destination Spa was born. This is a unique product for Ireland which has collected many global prestigious awards since opening. The Griffin group ethos is as it was from the very beginning providing a great product with unbeatable service standards. The Griffin Group is now one of the largest Irish owned and operated Hotel Groups in the South East of Ireland.
